Fredrik Okazaki is a musician, songwriter and producer and has worked with artists such as Robyn, Yung Lean, Mapei, Oskar Linnros among many others. This is his debut as a solo artist and the track is a collaboration with Mapei and Thomas Rusiak. Mapei had her commercial breakthrough with “Don’t Wait” that became a global hit in 2013. Thomas Rusiak is a well known artist and producer that has worked with countless pop/hip hop acts and his own album “Magic Villa” is a household classic, that includes the international mega hit “Hiphopper”.
Fredrik got into producing when he worked as an assistant at a label and got asked to produce a local special side project. The first baby steps as a producer has streamed till this day approx. 40 M streams. His international breakthrough came with his second production when he produced and wrote “No Gun” for Naomi Pilgrim. Blogs like Pigeons and Planes, NYLON, The Line of Best Fit, CLASH and Complex hyped the project.
The Fredrik Okazaki-produced song, which is our Track of the Week, is as impressive a debut single as a singer-songwriter could hope for. In the first few bars, we’re greeted by a dreamy, kettledrum line layered over deep bass that gives a nod to Pilgrim’s Barbadian roots. The laid-back beat, coupled with minimal sonic blips and interjections, gives way to a full-bodied chorus. You could even make the case that it obliquely resembles Dirty Projectors’ 2009 hit “Stillness Is The Move.” – Interview Magazine
It’s a fizzing electro-pop track with motivational gumption, frantic fluorescent beats and a chorus destined for the Top 40. Pilgrim clearly shows no signs of stopping on the quality front. – The Line of Best Fit
